Heat Pump Efficiency
If you’re interested in increasing your home’s energy efficiency, a heat pump is one of the best appliances you can have in your home. However, heat pumps will lose much of their effectiveness when outdoor temperatures are lower than 35°F. And unfortunately, those temperatures are not uncommon during Kansas winters.
The reason heat pumps lose efficiency with colder temperatures is that they only use a small fraction of energy source (e.g., gas) to create heat. Most of the heat that heat pumps produce is actually extracted from the ground and outdoor air then pumped back into your home. This means that heat pumps use less energy than other heating units, but it also means that as the outdoor temperatures get colder, they’ll have a more difficult time creating heat.
This is the reasons that heat pumps are frequently used as supplementary heat sources as opposed to primary (especially in colder regions). They’re excellent at making other heating units more efficient.
Regardless if what the temperatures are outdoors, however, they’ll only get more inefficient and less effective if they don’t receive the care and maintenance that they require.
Heat Pump Inspections
Any problems that your heat pump develops need to be taken care of as soon as possible. However, when you’re using a heat pump to supplement another heating unit, it may be difficult to tell which unit is experiencing the problems.
Our Heating Contractor can inspect your heating system and help you determine where the problems are stemming from, and we can get your heat pump into the best shape possible.
