3 Air Conditioning Problems That Require Emergency Repairs
On October, 25, 2017
Whenever you encounter a problem with your air conditioning system, you should always take action as soon as possible. Ignoring any AC problems will almost certainly mean they’ll get much worse, and a quick response time is the best way to limit damage and preserve the health of your AC. There’s a difference, however, between problems that need attention and problems that require emergency repairs.
At Mike Bryant Heating & Cooling, our HVAC contractors offer emergency air conditioning services to help you keep your home both comfortable and safe throughout the hotter parts of the year. Knowing when you have an emergency on your hands, however, can be difficult. If your air conditioner experiences any of the following problems, turn the system off immediately and contact us as soon as possible, or you may end up needing to have the entire system replaced.
1. Short Cycling
When an air conditioner short cycles, it continuously turns off and on every few minutes and never completes an entire cycle. This might be caused by a thermostat malfunction, or it may be that the AC’s compressor is throwing off the unit’s rhythm. Regardless of what the cause is, however, short-cycling puts your home’s air conditioner under a huge amount of stress, and if it’s left alone it can significantly reduce the lifespan of your AC. Call our professionals immediately for service, or you may end up killing the system.
2. Loss of Cooling
When your air conditioner stops circulating cool air through your home, it can be very uncomfortable and, depending on the temperatures outdoors, even unsafe. It’s also most likely a sign of a major problem with your air conditioner.
When your air conditioner stops cooling your home, it might be because of a refrigerant leak in the system. This will slowly deprive the AC of refrigerant until it’s finally totally incapable of operating. It may also be that the evaporator coil is freezing up, which prevents it from removing heat from your home. Both of these problems are very serious and need to be addressed by a qualified professional as soon as possible.
3. Grinding Noises
When you hear any grinding noises coming from your air conditioning unit, you need to have emergency AC repairs performed. The noises are probably coming from your air handler, which is what distributes cooled air throughout your home. It’s basically a fan that’s attached to a motor, and that motor is probably what is making these noises.
The motor is almost constantly under a great deal of strain, and if its bearing aren’t properly lubricated, then the motor will experience a lot of friction. If this isn’t taken care of as soon as possible, the motor will burn itself out, and you’ll have to deal with very extensive repairs.
